  • Confused and need help

ok let me start by saying please read this to help me understand whats going on.

Basically im 21 and with nationwide Bank in the uk
I have a cash card with them and have been with the bank for atleast 4 years.
I live on my own in a rented flat and have BT/Internet in the flat.

Il try to keep this short as ive already written this once which took 20minutes and then found out you can't put links in here without being over 15 posts which cleared my 20minutes of typing off :P

    Anyway

Ive had some trouble with BT as they setup a direct debit that comes out of my bank on the 28th of every month for roughly 40 pounds.

I didn't really think nothing of this until i went to a music festival and emptied my account out not thinking about my BT direct debit.

As overcourse i got an overdrawn fee of 30 pounds which i want happy about.

So as soon as i got back i rang up BT and spent about 2 hours trying to change to the 4th of everymonth just after i get paid, so after speaking to an indian guy who cant speak english for 2 hours it finally got done and that was that...

2 months go past and i haven't really checked my bank.

I get my statement through the door and it says i have to pay 90pounds overdrawn fees From BT from the 28th of each month.

So i ring them up pissed off and they apparently never got told i wanted to change it to the 4th of everymonth.

So with a bit of moaning they finally changed it properly and would of saved me 90 pounds if they done it properly the first time.
And they i say i want to pay off the remaining balance they say i need a ****ing direct debit card or credit card to "reactivate" the direct debit.

I explained to them i do not have one and they basically said they can do nothing until ive paid it twice using a credit card or debit card and then they will active the direct debit.

So i applied for a debit card with nationwide Again and they declined me and wouldnt give a reason.

So gave up trying to get a debit card and borrowed a card from my family.

So i got that all sorted.

month goes past and my only form of cheap transport my moped gets stolen by pikeys from outside my flat..

So as normal im pissed off get a bus for 2 months and in the end i can't stand getting a bus with all the school kids shouting at 7:30 on my way to a long days work.

So i thought id get a motorbike as i can afford it and fed up of public transport.

Saw the bike i wanted went into the dealer and applied for a 12.5% apr Credit and got declined

    tried elsewhere same thing.

So i thought id try and get a "bad" credit loan and applied forr a good one at 20% APR

Applied and still got turned down.

and now its just stressing me out.

I dont understand how i cant even get a Debit card when EVERYONE i know has one (im not joking everyone i know has a credit or debit card)
    and i dont.

All my friends can get loans/credit cards and yet they still have been overdrawn MANY times. ive been overdrawn once in the last 6months for 13 pounds.

So i thought id appliy for experian Credit report.

As no Shock at all you need a ****ing direct debit card or credit card to even get a report.

Im just so sick of going around i circles with no one giving me a real awnser why i can't get credit..

So please help me understand why i can't do anything i want to do.

    Thank you

Whoa, you've got quite a situation on your hands! What about going back to the bank to try and sort out the debit card issue? I would think that if you can get someone to sit down with you to help you sort out this mess you can solve most of your issues. I definitely recommend implementing a budget plan that allows you to track when you get paid and when your bills are due so you don't have to worry about overdrafting. Good luck!

How about a secured credit car? I doubt they can decline that and it is a great way to start/build a credit, at least here in the US

      Two comments, food for thought:

speaking to an indian guy who cant speak english for 2 hours
If I can not talk to a rep due to accent, attitude or both, I hang up and call again

2 months go past and i haven't really checked my bank.
Every day, or at least every week, it takes a few secs online. Particularly if you are following up on a case (like changing setups)

Your bank will not approve you for a debit card if you are currently over-drafted. This is a means to force you to come in and pay off the over-draft fees. They will often then require you to carry a minimum deposit of either $100 or $250. I don't know what that would convert to in pounds - something like either 200 or 500 pounds. So you might want to investigate keeping track of your bank account and taking out the direct debit account, and pay in cash instead. Change your BT provider if you need to, or just get a cell.

Keep trying and don't give up. I too once could not get credit at all and though I have had a debit for awhile I could not get a credit card even from my own bank who I had been with for forever. All my friends got credit card offers out of high school and I couldn't get a Sears card. I just kept filling out forms until someone approved me and I now have 1 debit and 1 credit card which is all I need/ I think it was for the best however as I have learned not to run up credit. If I was given one when I was very young I don't know if I could have said the same!

            Thanks for the information guys

I got a letter through the door with a well known bank in the uk Natwest

which will give me a Debit card once i get my bank switched over.

everything is paid for so im just waiting to switch over and i surpose the next thing is to build some good credit history

Il post some pictures etc of my motorbike when its all sorted and tell ya how i got it all sorted.

            Thanks for the advice
