Hey guys,
I am having a huge dillema with my cellphone contract for two weeks already. I am on a five years contract signed by my dad before he passed on to my name for already two years and the contract don't end till 2012. I have three more years to pay monthly but the thing is, there are months I use a lot of minutes and there are months I don't use much especially during school days. Most of the minutes I used on my current cellphone is chatting with friends which I can convert it into text message only.
I used to pay $55/month and they offered me $45/month instead when I asked them to end my contract because I was paying too much. With the $55/month, I had 200 minutes on weekdays and unlimited after 6 pm and weekend. I got unlimited incoming calls, incoming text messages, caller display and all the access fees. With the $45/month, I got 50 minutes on weekdays, 1000 evenings and weekends, unlimited textmessages (sending and receiving), caller display and access fees are included.
Now the thing is, I want to end my contract which cost $400 and it is a lot. Since I don't want to pay anything above $20 and my cellphone is dying. I do not need that much minutes to start and I can live on text messages for the moment. Another thing is, I don't really need it when I have school. I barely go out anyways... Also, I am going to China next April/May till September.
So yeah... I did my calculation till the end of 2012. If I pay $400 now and start getting a $15 per month card for the month of August, I will save $440in the long run. My dad has an extra cellphone that he doesn't use so he can give it to me. Will it be worth it? It is $440 in my savings instead of using it. Since I will be going away, I can save an extra $100 and that will make $540 saves. I can talk it out with my dad so he can pay half... He was the one signing it without my permission, he might agree to it and that will make $740 saves.
Do you guys think is a good idea to end my contract? Asking my coworkers where one said it's stupid to end the contract now and the other one telling me to do it is confusing me! :O
