I don't think of it in dollar terms. Money in the bank is only part of the equation. It's really a matter of opportunity as well.
Comfort to me is being able to say no or quit a job without any worry of finding another one - that you have very desirable experience and reputation. Comfort is maybe taking a job that you enjoy or aids your personal development without regards to the amount of the paycheck.
Sometimes I think that I may never retire, by choice. I've seen plenty of guys retire at 60-62, play some golf every day, and then croak at 65. I've seen others work a reduced schedule, happily, until their near 80.
So maybe, when I get to 60, I'll go do something completly different, just for the fun of it and work until I'm dead.
