  • Getting a debt collector statement in mail

We bought our house a year ago. About 2 months after we moved in, I recieved a letter from a debt collector (addressed to a pool service at our address) saying we owed 126.00 bucks for an alltel account. Obviously, it was not our debt, we just moved in. I ignored the letter. Another one showed up yesterday. What should I do about it--ignore it, write a letter saying that this pool service isn't at our address, what?

Call or write a letter informing them the debt is not yours.

I would not acknowledge this letter as if you read it and understand that it is for a debt. As far as your concerned, the matter of the letter is personal between the sender and the intended recipient. I would not give any debt collector more information about you.. name, phone number.. anything.

I would simply mail the letter back to the sender and simply say they have the incorrect address that you are not the pool place but a residential home.

Write "Not known at this address" on the envelope and leave it in your mailbox.
