  • How to get cheap car insurance

‘If it isn't broken, don't fix it' is a maxim that can make insurance companies a lot of money. Although everybody would like cheap car insurance, people tend to stick to the company that they are with rather than shop around for the lowest price for auto insurance. This can cost you hundreds of dollars a year.

Only by shopping around for auto insurance coverage and getting quotes on premiums from several insurance companies will you be able to know for certain you are getting the lowest price for auto insurance.

yup, shop, shop, shop. and when you find the lowest, lie and tell them someone offered you a rate that is $50 or $100 a year lower and see if they can match it.

I don't cheap is what is is all about when it comes to car insurance.

State minimums might not be wise, yet that is what most people would use to compare rates among companies. One might need greater coverage. I prefer to have bigger uninsured driver coverage, for example, because my city is swarming with uninsureds. I prefer greater coverage for damage to other vehicles and property because multi-car accidents are not uncommon and one car these days might be $50,000. I prefer to have better than state minimum coverage for injuries as well, as that can be godawfully expensive and I would not want to risk the rest of my financial well-being if insurance were too little...In short I don't pay minimum.

Also the company offering the cheapest might not be the most reliable when it comes to paying up should the insurance actually be needed. I don't want a fly-by-night insurer. And these days, I would like to have some glimmer of hope that my insurance company is not on the verge of bankruptcy.

Have you checked California Casualty? I switched to them a couple years ago and have consistently gotten the best rates with then every renewal despite shopping around and despite that I've been involved in two accidents since signing with them (neither which was my fault). Anyway I've been very happy with their service and recommend them to everyone I know.
