Personal Finance Books

WOW there are a lot of personal finance books out there. I'd like to pick up 2-4 to purchase and read (and have on hand whenever I need to reference them). The others will just be rented from the library when time permits. Problem is I'm having trouble deciding. I'm planning on getting 2-3 from the Basics on PF list and 1-2 from the Investing list.

I highly recommend The Automatic Millionaire, but I would not classify it as an investment book. It is primarily an personal finance book that finds money in your day to day expenses to invest. It gives good advice on overall debt control and dollar maximizing for wealth building.

I only have 'Millionaire Next Door' and 'WSJ Personal Finance', but I thought they both were great. WSJ teaches the basics of just about everything PF-related, which is great for someone just starting out. Millionaire talks about making responsible, frugal living, and saving a way of life. Personally, I really enjoyed Millionaire--the author writes in an almost conversational tone, which makes it very easy to read.

Why don't we have anything by Eric Tyson up here? He writes all of the "For Dummies" series that have anything to do with finance. Personal Finance for Dummies, Mutual Funds for Dummies, etc. Great books for both the "Dummy" and the well read.

I really like All Your Worth by Elizabeth Warren and Amelia Warren Tyagi. It helps keep everything in balance.

Try your local goodwill. I find these books for less than three dollars.

Yes, I agree, David Bach is a good writer. I've not only ready his books many times, but I've given his books out as gifts on numerous occasions.
