  • When to exchange funds

I started my Roth IRA at vanguard with the STAR fund. I did so with the intentions of always exchanging my STAR fund holdings for a Target Retirement fund. Over the last year, the value of my holdings in the STAR fund have decreased significantly. The question now is, do I disregard that loss in value and exchange for the TR fund, or wait for the value to come back up and then exchange it?

    Thanks.

ALL stock funds have taken a bath. If your goal is to be in a target retirement fund, then now is as good a time as any to transfer.

I agree with sweeps. The current value of your STAR account shouldn't have any bearing on your decision unless your balance has fallen below the $3,000 minimum you need to get into the other fund.
