  • 2 hours wasted

I spent about 2 hours researching information about my portfolio so I could ask a question and not expect you all to do any research about the funds... I tried to preview post and it would not preview, so I hit back page and there was nothing there...

How do I get time back that was wasted... time is money

Oh well, nothing to see here, carry on,
    Ray

Sorry Ray! I've done that before. I always try to copy my post to the clipboard if it's a long one just in case... It has saved numerous times.

Sorry to hear, but it's happened to me before. Not just here but other sites. It's a little late now, but if you find yourself writing a long, time-consuming post, you can select the text and hit Ctrl-C to copy it to your clipboard before submitting, so you can re-paste it if the submit fails.

Edit: boosami beat me to the punch.

Oddly enough I know this and often do it, this time I forgot to and paid the price. When I have time I will re-present my question.

        Thanks for the input,
        Ray

That's happened to me more times than I care to count.

For future reference, I recommend to type your post up on a separate text editor such as notepad or even Word. When you're done, then create the post, and copy and paste in the text.

What else would you have been doing if you weren't spending 2 hours researching your portfolio? I never understand why people say time is money. Would you have spent those 2 hours watching tv? cleaning the house? reading a book? you wouldn't have been getting paid for any of those things, so how is your time = money in this situation?

A valid question, I do not appreciate your overtone but I will entertain your question. I am a Soldier, currently deployed to Iraq, basically I am on the clock 24 hours a day but usually stay at the office for about 10-14 hours a day. After that, I carry a radio around so I can be contacted at any time... I am always working.

Not only do I manager my own work load but I am a Section Sergeant of eight men, I write awards, evaluations, manage their time and missions to ensure they are not over worked and we still meet mission.

Since I am away from home, I also tend to my quarters myself, to include cleaning, laundry, retrieving food, taking out trash etc...

I am a mentor at a financial class that I attend after work hours to assist Soldiers young and old with their finances. Thus far we have worked with over 300 Military (All branches) and civilians on the battle field.

I also attend on line college that takes us more personal time after hours, though I work one class at a time, I still believe I am being selfish in taking these classes so I do only one class at a time.

I put in countless hours as a senior Non-Commissioned Officer dealing with Soldier issues on a professional and personal level. For the majority of this mission I was a Platoon Sergeant of 32 Soldiers, I stepped aside to offer the rating to a fellow NCO but I still deal with the issues that were brought to me by these Soldiers while I held the position.

The question I asked, "How do I get time back that was wasted" was a rhetorical question, the note of, "time is money" does not always mean monetary value. Answer me this, would you say a house wife with one child has no value? I mean really, what does she do except manage the house, tend to the child, take care of us when we are sick, ensure we have clean clothes daily, do the dishes, sweep/mop the floors, vacuum the rugs, call for repairs to the house, ensure the vehicles maintenance is kept up, tend to the pets, ensure the bills are paid (At least a second pair of eyes for those that pay the bills themselves), cater to special events so we can watch our football and debates... and that is just what pops to the top of my head. The "work" my wife puts in around the house is invaluable to me, if you ask me, she should be earning more than I earn. Without her I would not be as successful as I am today.

I hope this answers your question.

So glad things like this are being done. Thank you. I know military people do not necessarily make much money and I've had the impression that too often military families get into money troubles. When traveling, I've noticed how often pawn shops, title loan shops, and such are clustered around bases. Adding in the challenge of being deployed and away from accounts & bills makes the need for persistence, clear understanding, clear contracts, goals, and saving discipline become even more pressing.
