  • Close old bank account?

Hi, my new fiance and I are going to open a new checking/savings acct. with a credit union. I still have my old acct. with another credit union which I have had for years and since we cannot add him to that account with that credit union (he has a poor history with them), we will start a new one.

My question though is, should I close my accounts with the old credit union to streamline things or should I keep it all open for the positive history ( credit card, paid off car loan, personal loans, years as a good customer etc.).
We will be looking to buy a house in the next couple of years or so, and I did not want to hurt my credit rating somehow by closing this long standing credit union account. Do I keep it all open, or just keep the credit card open or no need to keep any of it?

    Thanks for any help!

Closing checking and savings accounts has no effect on your credit. If you can leave the credit card open, I would do that. Your other loans are already paid off, right?

The only thing you need to know is if you intend to do business with them any longer. I found that they will treat you no different than anyone else despite your longterm patronage. I would leave them if you no longer need the account.

        I agree.

It wont hurt your credit rating anyway.
