  • Gas & Groceries - Upcoming Discover Card bonuses

I'm not sure exactly what they call them, but I just paid my DiscoverCard bill (yes we use it monthly, pay it off monthly) and saw the upcoming rebates or whatever they're called - the 5% back program - for:

July thru September 2008 they give it for GAS & hotels.

October thru December 2008 it's for GROCERIES, restaruants and movies.

You have to go online and sign-up for these offers. You can do the July-Sept one now and go back later for the other one.

(Someone kick me later so I'm sure to do the grocery one in October!)

Ohhh, and I'm currently just 68 cents shy of getting my CashBack check!

I'm a huge Discover fan, but the fact that I have to sign up for these everytime is quite annoying!

True, but I find the benefits quite good. They gave me $250 in cash back last year, with me giving them $0 in fees! Just remember that these 5% bonuses have a limit (ususally good up to $400 in purchases).

The flyer in my bill said gas and hotels for 3rd quarter but 4th quarter said restaurants, movie theaters and movie rentals. It doesn't say anything about grocery stores but they do list it at the website. They must have added that later.

It is a pain that you need to sign up. It should be automatic. And the $400 cap needs to be raised. One hotel stay for a few days can easily be over $400.

        * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
        * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
        * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

With grocery prices, the way they're going up, $400 in one trip isn't impossible.

The good thing is that my wife and I each have our own Discover cards so we can get the 5% bonus on $800 worth of purchases each quarter.

Is it $400 in purchases? I'll hit that in less than one month. That sucks... I thought it was good for up to $400 in rebate dollars... so much for my positive thinking.

Yep, $400 in purchases, so a max rebate of $20. Not a real big deal when you look at it that way.

Not a big deal at all... actually kind of a bummer. Guess I'll have to go back to using my miles card ;-)
