If I'm at home it's usually not on. I just open up all the windows and occasionally the front door to allow air in. If I'm gone or at night I set it to 74. This may sound weird, but I swear my cat starts to freak out if it's any higher.

74 in Texas. I live in an apartment complex with another apartment above me, and my electric bills are surprisingly low due to (I assume) excellent insulation in the building.

No central air here so the temp is what it is! We do have a window unit that we use on the rare days that it gets into the 90's. Our house is 150 years old, and we really don't see the need to install central air.

Wow really 80? Yikes that seems so hot. We usually have ours at 76 during the day(only because I'm trying to conserve, would do 72 otherwise) and 73 at night. But what i've been doing is getting up in the morning shutting the windows and just keep the house all closed up all day...my temp will start to climb to 75 by night and then I'll flip the air on. I've also gotten a tension rod and hung a sheet on it and put it at the top of the stairs. You wouldn't believe how that keeps the upstairs cooler because it keeps the cold air from falling back down the steps and the hot air from coming up. Before I started using the sheet we'd have to put the air down to 68 at night to get it cool upstairs...try it
