Sounds like he's not happy with his job. Instead of moving to the UK, tell him to go find another job that he can be excited to get out of bed for. Obviously I don't have the big picture, but if his employer wants him to move overseas then they should pay for it and make it worthwhile for him. Sounds to me like they're not doing that. No one is chained to their job.
