  • filing taxes online

Ok this is one of the first years in awhile that I am not working seasonally at a tax office (schedule conflicts), and I have to get my taxes done before this week is up.

I've never filed taxes online before, but I see I am eligible to file for free from the IRS website. Does anyone have any tips on where. I also have to file in 2 states (NY, NJ)since I moved in the summer. I need some program that allows me to file both states.

      Federal:

If you have income from both the states, then yes you need to file for both states.... but I have no idea how to do that. In fact, I'm not sure you can do State tax returns free of any charges.

I think the only option for States is to purchase Turbo Tax -- or another software program -- and can e-file the return through that software, but it's not totally free that way. I could be wrong about this though....

As my hubby's and my income is too high to qualify for "freeness" -- I just buy the program, printout the results and mail it in.

Someone else hopefully can provide more detail on states income tax.

For some reason adding or editing any text with a "quote" embedded -- hangs the computer. So I'm adding the following (instead of editing it in).

To choose one of the companies providing free e--file of your Federal Tax return... it is recommended to fill out this form:

        Error

        Error

All the companies listed interface with the IRS and they provide this service for exposure to the world at large. They should all do a good job with this -- it's entirely software run, and computers don't make mathematical mistakes

Okay the links aren't working either.

Basically from the original post link --> click on Start Now --> then click on the button marked "Guide me to an online company" --> the fill out the form.
