  • Credit card payment

What if you send a check for credit card payment, and company says they never received check. What proof do you have you sent it? Just wondering.
    Thanks!

    none
that's my beef with the credit card companies

years ago i had a Texaco card that I paid monthly with no problem on my next bill i received a late charge ,I was shocked but thought it was possible so I paid the new bill the same day I received it the next month I also received a late charge! i never used that card again

the credit cards have you over a barrel as everyone will assume you did not pay and are trying to pull something
I would resend the check but be prepared for the lost one to magically appear so make sure you have the money for both checks and be sure to pay next months bill as scheduled , call and ask for any fees to be removed

Several years ago I sent out a Sears MC payment with plenty of time to spare. The payment was processed only hours after the cutoff and they were total jerks about it. I have always wondered if they held the payment back for that very reason. That's one of the good things about using online payment at least, you get the confirmation number after you submit the payment request.

Use your bank's online bill pay to make the payment. It's faster, easier, and gives you a record of payment.

I prefer paying on the credit card company's site as opposed using to my bank's online bill pay.

Your bank has no reason to make a speedy payment but the credit card company makes sure it collects. If you have a problem with an online payment at the credit company website, you usually have to deal only with the credit card company.

If you rely on your bank to make the transfer and there's a problem, you end up chasing both companies ... the bank says they paid it, the credit card company says they didn't receive it, etc.

One word of warning: if you set your credit card bill to be paid on a certain date, some don't post it until the next business day. So don't cut it too close to the due date.

To the OP: You don't have any proof of mailing (unless you sent it certified mail, which would be pretty unusual for a bill payment). If they cashed the check, that's your proof they received it.

I've never had a problem with my bank delivering the online bill payment.

I prefer going through my own bank because:
-- The bill payments are centralized and easy to track.
-- I am in control of what is paid and when.
-- I don't like having my checking account information stored at 20 different sites.

Companies that allow me to auto-debit a credit card, that's a different story. I gladly allow them to do that because I get the protection of the credit card, and I earn reward points.

            Sorry OP, went off-topic.

              Well Yes I agree.

Online Payment is a good way to receive confirmation about date/time of submission.

While i have noticed most companies are lenient and sometimes allow courtesy credits for mishaps.

I guess in the vent you run into a quarrel you will find out if the company appreciates you as a customer rathern than blowing you off and on top of it add a fee.

That isn't true at all in my experience. On the rare occasion when a payment wasn't received, I notified the bank and they took care of everything. I had proof I made the payment in plenty of time. The bank was responsible for it after that. They've settled up the account and had any fees removed.

Much easier to pay at my bank's site where I can pay multiple vendors on a single screen, rather than going to each company's own site.

I also like going to the companies website to pay. I also print out the confirmation information and number. I do that with my utilities as well.

Some cards, chase, allow you to have your statement balance paid in full automatically from your checking on the payment due date. This gives you plenty of time to double check their statement for errors before they take your money. I enjoy this and will continue to do it unless I find unauth charges on the card.

That's exactly what I do. I have every possible bill charged to my credit cards. Then I just pay those few credit card bills each month. I don't have to deal with a lot of different websites or with making multiple payments from my bank account.

I pay everything through my online banking. I've never had a problem. I have the money come out of my bank on the due date (not before) and I've never been charged a cent of interest by my credit card companies.

I just go to the CC website and pay the bill the day I get it. This keeps me from goin to high toward my limit. I have only allowed myself a 1000 on my visa.

If you have Internet access, there's really no excuse anymore. Pay the bill early, and verify that the payment has gone through. Credit card companies especially will cut you no slack. Late payment means a fee, and that is simply the way they do business these days.

If the check has gone through your bank, you can usually get a copy of it. If the check has not cleared the bank, then you don't have any proof.

If you really sent a check and it has not cleared the bank, then you need to put a stop payment on the check and pay again.

I agree with everyone else here.... it's easier to pay by Internet... easier to confirm... and less risky with all the problems with snail-mail and non-delivery or misdirects or theft.
