  • Best Cash/Gas Reward Card Program?

    Hi all,

I'm new to this forum, so take it easy on me!

I'm interested in securing a cash back card that pays decently when it comes to gas. As a college student, the bulk of my credit card purchases go for gas, so it would make the most sense to have a card that gives a solid percentage when I tank up. Do any of you folks have a suggestion for a nice cash back card when it comes to gas? Or if not specific to just gas, but a good cash back card in general? My credit score is between 682-690 depending up on which agency calculates the numbers. Thanks for any tips!

My gas card with UMB gives me 5 cents on the gallon. I don't know if thats good or not. I'm not real educated on CC's. The card is a Quiktrip card, don't know if you have those in your area.

Thanks for the pointer. I don't have any UMB/Quicktrip stations around here, most of them are Arco, 76, Chevron and indiess.

There are quite a few depending on what you are looking for:

Citibank Shell Mastercard gives you 5% back on Shell purchases and 1% for all other purchases. It is credited to your account automatically next month on the Shell Gas portion of the bill.

Chase PerfectCard is 3% on gas and 1% all others -- also credit every single month on the entire balance.

I'd avoid a card issued by a particular gas station chain. I think that is far too limiting. You may also be tempted to go to that chain even if they charge more just to get a few cents back, which may not make any sense.

I'd take a look at the cards jeffrey linked to.

I use a card from Pentagon Federal Credit Union that pays 5% back on gas, 2% on groceries, and 1.25% on all other purchases. I'm a pretty big nazi about CC's and this is the best I've found. I wrote about it in my blog that I can't link to yet but whose link is in my profile.

I like gas cards that automatically credit your account every single month like Citicard Shell or Chase Perfectcard. Why do I have to call or wait until $50 builds up?
