Score one for dad.
DD, who has never been on a ski slope in her life, is going on the youth group ski trip in a couple of weeks. She was in need of a decent ski jacket and ski pants for the trip. DW was trying to think of where to go: EMS, LL Bean, Dick's, etc. That just made me see $$$ going out the window. So I suggested the local thrift shop, at least for the jacket, because I know they usually have a good selection of jackets.
They were both willing, so off we went. As I thought, the jacket rack was filled with a very nice selection, including Columbia, LL Bean, Nike, Adidas, Starter and many other good quality name-brands. I found a Gerry jacket that DD really liked. It was marked $15.00 and had one of the color tags that was half off today, so it was $7.50. Then we looked for ski pants and they had those too. $3.00 and half off. So for a whopping $9.00, we got the coat and pants she needed.
The trip wasn't quite that cheap, though, because DD also found a denim jacket she really liked for spring. That was the most expensive item we bought - $10.00, but still far cheaper than buying a new one and she does look really cute in it.
So we spent a grand total of $19.00. I'm sure the pants alone would have been that much at the regular stores and the jacket would have been even more. Two points for dad.
