  • $600 tax return for singles?

So my roommate just told me that the U.S. Government is guaranteeing at least a $600 tax return for everyone who is single. She swears it's true.

I'm a little skeptical (okay, a lot skeptical) simply because I haven't even heard of this.

Would anyone be willing to shed some light on this so I can either a) believe her or b) straighten her up?

    Thanks!

It's not guaranteed. It's being discussed. Wait until it becomes law first, then we'll talk.

Ah okay! I was skeptical because I feel if that was a law, there would have been some major headlines about it.

I believe that it will be brought before the Senate this week to vote to see if it will indeed pass to become law.

As far as I understand, it will not be a $600 credit on your tax return, but rather a separate check for $600 if single, $1200 if married, and $300 extra per child, provided you meet the qualifications (salary not exceeding a certain amount, etc).

Go to Google News and search for stimulus package for more info. The basic plan is that if you give a bunch of people this money, they will spend it on goods and thus stimulate the economy.
