    I check my account daily and balance pretty much every week. Online banking is definately not a substitutefor me, I have found a few over charges by merchants. I use MS Money

      I balance weekly, use my PDA to track, and online to reconcile.

          I review my statement monthly, eyeballing the transactions, but I don't perform a line-by-line, cent-by-cent balancing anymore.

            I'm like you, I don't balance my checkbook -- just a quick check online every so often to make sure it looks right. I don't write many checks, so it's easy to spot errors.

              I had problems with doing a check register. I have a spreadsheet that I created to track my bills and such. I am ADHD (ADHDers are notorious for not remembering to pay their bills) and I am OCD about money and bills. It is not a good combination. I was making myself crazy over trying to remember to pay the bills and then trying to remember what bills I did pay and then stressing over if I really did pay them. I would also stress if I remembered to write them down or not in the check register.

              Now, I have a whole procedure/system to paying bills and updating my spreadsheet. I don't stress, I just check my spreadsheet (everyday, 'cause I am OCD). I check the accounts online every other day or so ('cause I am OCD). Everything gets paid and I know everything gets paid. I am a totally happy camper because of it.

              PS:
              What makes it OCD is that I have a procedure that I have to do. That is the difference between just checking the account and doing it because I have OCD. If the procedure gets "off", I have to start over.

              OCD=obsessive compulsive disorder
