  • No Equifax Credit History - How to Reestablish?

    Hi

I was living and working outside the US (my home country) for several years and just noticed that Equifax has no credit history on file for me anymore.

Experian and Transunion still do have some activity and its all positive but I imaging this will be disappearing soon as well.

What is a good way to re-establish my credit, especially with Equifax.

If a credit card is a good idea, which ones might be least likely to turn me down (PLUS score 720) _and_ report to Equifax.

    Thanks!

Note I also have a lot of inquiries because i have been looking for new business and personal bank accounts to replace my current ones. so i have 5 inquiries on experian, 3 on TU and 3 on EQ.

is that going to ding me on any credit card apps?

if you have a steady income, your checking bank should be able to give you a credit card, even with a low credit limit.
alternatively, you may ask your spouse to add you to their credit card, or look at other forms of borrowing such as loans..

With all due respect, I would seriously reconsider putting yourself in debt just to establish your credit. Having no credit history may not necessarily be better or worse than having a history with debt.

A few credit checks won't affect your credit profile by much. The creditor is supposed to recognize that you're shopping for credit, and not necessarily opening multiple accounts at the same time.

I would recommend making all your payments on time and keep building your asset accounts. These two things are better for your personal finance than any benefit to be had with a credit card.
