My score is over 800. They told me that my score would be better if I had a mortgage. It makes no difference to me that my house has been paid off for a long long time. So, the last time, i bought a piece of property, I got a mortgage on it. Now it is paid off. I should check my score again. It only cost about $12 to get your score, I think.

I got a "personal credit score" from TransUnion and then 4 months later a FICO score from Equifax. Nothing really changed within that time frame and the scores were only different by 3 points. I'm not saying it tracks that close all the time, but for me it did in that instance.

Get your FICO scores (the only ones that matter) only at myfico.com. Before you pay for it, google the words fico discount code -- often you can find 20% off codes.

Are you saying the FICO from Equifax isn't "as good" as the FICO from myfico?

The reason I go to Myfico and order scores is because they would ding me with a hard inquiry. A lot of sites that offer you a free report & score show up as a hard inquiry on your credit report and this can hurt your score.

Steve - I don't know if you have a FICO or FAKO score. Only the people at myfico have the calculator that calculates their scores. A lot of companies guess what the percentages and how much each items counts but no one really knows the formula that myfico uses. I believe with Equifax you have a FICO score.

Here are a couple of links that might help:

No, the Equifax FICO is about the same as myFICO's Equifax FICO. I just know you love to get something at a discount, and the discount is available at myFICO. Experian and TransUnion do not sell FICOs on their sites.

Or you could go to Annualcreditreport and get a real FICO score from Equifax once a year for $7.95.

That's exactly what I did, and how much I paid.

Or you could sign up for a trial membership to tripleadvantage.com for one month for $1 and get your Equifax credit report and FICO score, than cancel the membership before the month is up. And if you do it through something like a link through MyPoints, or a pay to try program like SendEarnings, InboxDollars or CashDuck, you can often get a $10 gift card to somewhere to boot, sometimes they'll send two gift cards if they are doing a promotion, as well as earning dollars through one of those programs. Cheapest way I've found, you just have to be organized.

I do a lot of transactions over the internet (ie. online banking, buying stuff, investing, etc...) but I'm always leery of giving my SS# and info to sites I'm not familiar with. I'm not saying these aren't legit sites, but with the credit report thing I just see too much information given in one spot to chance it with someone I don't know. Granted, my info can probably be had by anyone savvy enough to get it regardless, but I just don't want to make it too easy for them.

I ran into a problem with my report. When I ordered it, I checked the box saying I wanted to be able to view it online for free for 30 days. I didn't print it then because I wanted to use the printer at work instead. Now I can't figure out how to return to view my report. There doesn't seem to be anywhere on the Equifax site to allow that, and to access their customer service info (phone number, e-mail) you have to log in to your account. Since I'm unable to log in, I can't figure out how to contact them. Any ideas?

Didn't you create a login and password when you bought the report?

If not, see if this works (I can't test it out without a report, and I don't have a current one): Go to "online dispute" at the top. Click "next", fill in the confirmation #, etc. See if it gives you access to the whole report (which you'd need if you were going to dispute part of it).

Has anyone heard ordered a credit report from FreeCreditReport.com | Free Credit Report and Credit Score Online by Experian A friend of mine referred me to this site about a week ago and I signed up for the free trial. It had been awhile since I last checked my credit report until after I received a letter last week from Western Union saying that someone hacked into their customer database and stole important customer information, including mine. They offered to give me a one-year free membership with Equifax to view my credit score and credit report. Obviously, I signed up as soon as I received the letter since identity theft is on the rise.

I tried using the freecreditreport.com. It is free from experian with trial membership. It shows your credit score, too.
