Don't get Netflix, get Blockbuster instead. You get the same thing but you also get to return the movies to the store and get a movie from them. As soon you as they scan the online sent movie in at the store, it starts the process of sending you the next movie in your queue. So you get double the movies. I get movies from the store and TV shows from the online. If you like games like EQ and WoW, you might like shows like Stargate, Battlestar Gallactica, Stargate Atlantis, etc. I get all of that from the online.

Plus, I get a free game rental a month.

Buy a metal detector, the hobby that pencils out to a profit!

Before you doubting Thomas's scoff its not uncommon to dig up things that are quite valuable. The most valuable coin I have dug up is worth $1,400 (1786 NJ Colonial) but I have dug many worth $20-$100 and several worth several hundred. A couple years ago a guy in our hobby dug a 1792 half disme (that's a half dime e.g. 5 cent US coin) it sold at auction for over $20,000.

Then theres gold and silver at lakes and beachs. I moved to the NH shore just a month ago and I have already found about .38 troy ounces of gold. Its also not uncommon to dig up a diamond ring worth thousands, I know several people who have. One guy I know who hunts the beaches on long island digs about 200 gold rings a season over there.

          So there you are.

Get into Photography. That is a hobby that can absorb plenty of your extra cash and time. It can also turn out to be something that you really enjoy and may be able to flip it around and actually make money off of it when you get the hang of it. You'd be surprised how many friends/people at church/coworkers ask me about doing portraits or shooting their children's team shots or action shots. Those paying jobs help support my habit of doing something I enjoy.

Do you enjoy any kind of drawing or painting? You can usually find some weekly drop-in sessions with models. At least it can fill up one of your nights

Wow great response. I am/was considering taking extra on-call time for my job. I still really wonna turn investing into my hobby. I just need to find enough activities that'll keep me busy day to day. I dunno, where to start, I need to talk with someone else who does it as a hobby. I could easily read financial forums all day long, however this forum doesnt move fast enough for that. And others i've found, are too formal. IE you do it this guy's way or you're gonna go into financial ruin!

I'm almost just like you except I'm not addicted to video games although I enjoy playing games when i'm with friends.

I took up photography this year and spent a large amount of money over the past 10 months. I bought new things to try as I became more proficient and I am now at the point where I do photo shoots at events and I am slowly paying off my equipment.

I wanted to take up investing as a hobby as well but I found it hard to stay focused with no support where as with photography there are alot of active forums and I have a few personal friends who are also into the hobby. Every once in awhile we get together to discuss recent photos and compare and share what we've captured. This is a pretty rewarding hobby when you get that perfect shot.

Good Luck and feel free to PM me if you'd like to chat more.

Go to the gym and get yourself in shape before 30 comes and your metabolism goes to sh*t. My company has a gym that is practicalyl vacant after 6:30 at night. 2 hours there and I dont have time to game anymore.

Start blogging. Make a webpage, create a business with that.

Your problem is not gaming, you problem is that you didn't find an aim in life. Your finances look good, you just need an aim.

Create a business of some kind. Start looking for financial freedom?

Maybe their is an artist lurking within.
Why not take up painting, paper mache, sculpting, or some other art?
You may discover talent you never knew you had!
Another great hobby is refinishing furniture.
I don't know about all areas of the country, but in my area I have seen a lot of good solid wood furniture for free or at a low cost on Craigs List or Freecycle....furniture just waiting for a new look.

I was once in that same boat. I turned my hobbies into money making adventures. I say you find something that you really like to do and turn into a little side business. Who knows.. it could turn full-time!
