Do any of you list your assets at Networth? It is fun to read and compare.

You can get there at www.networthiq.com. What name do you use?

No, I do not. I cannot imagine why people are using this site. I am not being sarcastic, I really do not understand.

How could it motivate you to know that my net worth is $4 or $4M. Seriously, why do people do this?

To me it is like a site that monitors what everybody's electric bill is. Without knowing people's experience, age, education, inheritence, georgraphy, etc., what does it show?

      Re: Networth

Ima, I haven't used the site, but I just sat and figured out our net worth this morning. My husband hopes to retire in less than two years and I'm looking at retirement in 10 and a friend of mine was telling me we needed to have a set amount invested before we do retire so we can live comfortably.

I don't think anyone is going to say, gee, I'm worth $4 or $40,000 so I'm OK, but I do think it helps some people get a handle on where they are financially. Better to be in the black than in the red!

It's also a way for personal finance bloggers to promote their site. A free link is a free link!

I kind of had the same initial reaction: "Why would anyone want to use this."

          1) Free link, as mentioned above.
          2) Free tool to guide you in calculating your net worth. Most of us could probably accomplish this with excel or a piece of paper, but who knows.
          3) Show off?
          4) There actually are some demographics. You can browse by age, income, etc, etc. I looked at it for a second, but didn't sign up or enter any information.

It does give ages, level of education, etc. Paul, can I ask what name you use? I noticed most of the people on there have pretty high salaries. I got the name from this site, savingadvice.com.

I'm on there (still as ren) and I'm glad I did it, as I'm actually better off than I thought I was!

Yes, I actually do tend to think my net worth is whatever is in my savings account. Shush.

I looked for you Paul, but I couldn't find you. I wish they had a way to type in the person's name so you don't have to scroll thru a million names.

On the contrary, i think the site can be very motivating/revealing because you can easily compare how you measure up against other people based on age, income and other variables.

                              I'm there.
