  • 2007 Goals

As we wind down 2006 I am wondering what everyone's financial and personal goals may be for the coming year. Personally, I have a HELOC that I want to get paid off, I need to bump up my ROTH IRA contribution to max, and I am going to be finishing up my MBA. There's also a few projects that I want to get completed around my house.

I am with you on the Roth IRA, if not Max, as close as I can. In addition, have a car loan I'd like to eliminate with my bonus next year if all goes well (and start paying myself for the next car down the line). If my only Debt can be Mortgage and school loan, I'd be a happy person . . .

Max out our Roth IRA's and put 3% into husbands TSP account.

Contribute $2000 to our two daughters ESA accounts.

Pay down our HEL by at least $7000.

Take a vacation with cash...maybe Mt Rushmore.

Buy a new van? Not sure on this one, may need to wait for a raise.

Pay off $7000 in personal debt.

            Get a part-time job.

Get EF up from $965 to $2000.

Start a savings account specifically for the month of November when about $2500 worth of bills come in all in the one month!

                Re: 2007 Goals

Well I'm 100% debt free and have my EF done. My goal for the rest of 2006 and most of 2007 is to save all that I can so I can have as close as I can to a 20% down payment on a house.

Get over being intimidated by financial stuff and read investing books

Look at my Deferred comp 457 plan, change holdings if necessary, bump up contribution

                  Invest a minimum of $2000

Put another $4000 in my Roth IRA

Look at my non-Roth IRA holdings

                    Re: 2007 Goals

Sell all of my winning stocks/mutual funds and rollover/transfer my 401K assets to a self directed IRA.

Sell my illiquid assets- My primary house and suburban land plot and increase my land holdings in rural areas.

Make a decision if I should stay retired or work again.

                          My goals for 2007:

                          Contribute $4500 to 401k + Earn $3400 in company match = $7900

                          Save $4,000 in Roth IRA

                          Save $6,000 for house downpayment

These are certainly achievable goals, but they don't leave much room for error! How achievable do you guys make your goals? It would be nice to "beat" your goals, but having such lofty goals for myself helps me stay focused.
