  • Credit Report Questions

I have two questions. First, weren't we going to do some sort of schedule with reminders every four months to request your free credit report from a different one each time? Shouldn't it be about time to do that again and anyone remember who is next to request from?

Second question is, and I know I shouldn't have sat on this so long before doing anything about it, but to be honest, I got frustrated and gave up. But I know someone here will have the knowledge to offer. When I did request a credit report, it had my name spelled wrong, one vowel on my last name was wrong. I inquired and they said that was what my creditors reported, I had to have them change it. Well, the sad thing is, NONE of my bills come misspelled and so I don't know who to tell to change it. Recently, I did some online search on my name and it came up that I had an AKA with the misspelling! I have no idea where this has come from or how to correct it. Anyone have any ideas?

    Re: Credit Report Questions

The slight variation in name is nothing to worry about (as long as it wasn't the result of fraud or ID theft). My wife has 7 or 8 variations on her credit report. Trying to get the name removed will probably be more trouble than it's worth.

As long as the credit report is in my SS# it doesn't matter that it isn't my name? I guess as long as someone always tries to pull it by my SS# and not by my name, it will not be a problem.

If your name was completely different on your credit report, sure, I would be concerned. Having an AKA with just a difference in one vowel shouldn't hurt anything.

Ultimately the decision is yours whether to pursue it, but I personally would be more worried about having a CSR at the creditor inadvertently changing more important information on my credit report.
