I was talking to a 35 year old man the other day. He is starting to make good money at his self empolyment job and also at spec house. I was trying to interest him into opening a roth ira. He had heard of them, but has no idea how to open one or where. I hope I eventually rub off on someone.
Bookie, I have friends I would like to advise them to come to the forum, but like you, they would catch on to me immediately. I guess my location would give me away. (I could lie about where I live and what my dh does for a living. Oh, that is too much work and I am a terrible liar)(I mean I can't do it well)

I am LUCKY to have married someone on my level financially. Lucky or smart, eh? I feel lucky, because money seems to be such a problem in many relationships. IT is probably rare when 2 people see eye to eye from the start.

Of course there are the thing he thinks I am insane to buy and I think he is insane to buy and so we give each other an allowance and let it go - LOL.

Sometimes I feel like a nut - sometimes he does! We take turns rubbing off on each other. He was probably more naturally frugal to begin with, but I've always been the saver and he hasn't. Once I have money saved then I feel it's okay to spend the money I have on hand. He still squeaks when he walks and will price comparison me into the hair pulling stage.

If I've budgeted 1000.00 to buy a new frig and I can get one for that I'm in and out and done w/my Sears shopping done and delivered in one 40 minute trip to the store - okay there are 3 here, one's 990.00, one's 875, and ones 1100.00. The 990 one looks good enough for me.

He will price compare at 10 different places and come home at the end of the day with nothing. Yes, he may eventually get his frig for 899.95 + 30.00 delivery. The 70.00 savings is not worth it to me especially back in the days before the internet and he'd spend all day driving around to the different stores and then ending back at the very first store he visited to buy. EGAAAAAAAAADS - that drove me nuts!! I just refuse to shop with him anymore. Because to me shopping is going out to get what you need and bringing it home. For him it's to look at prices. A minor difference that caused some hum-dilly fights when we first married. I thought we were going to go get X - but no, we were going out to compare prices. Semantics can be important!

We do better as a team when I'm the billpaying party that orchestrates the savings and investing program and he does the comparison shopping. I think it is important to find each other's strengths and play to them. When he paid the bills the bills got paid but there were no savings and investments - just lots of good 'deals' on computer upgrades!
