Government Shuts Down

Good point. Plus it is often the folks who work for the government who feel their jobs are most secure. Maybe they won't lose their jobs but when your employer can just suddenly decide to shut down and not pay you for some period of time, that EF comes in handy. Or if they decide that from now on, you only get to work 4 days/week instead of 5, which happened to a lot of fed employees.Originally posted by fruitbowlk View PostFor people that don't think they need an EF. * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
* Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
* There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

As I brought up in a separate thread, I was under threat of this exact scenario. Gratefully (speaking selfishly), they have exempted military pay from the shutdown, but literally hundreds of my civilian friends, co-workers, and associates are receiving furlough notices as we speak (in total, over 800k will be furloughed).Originally posted by disneysteve View PostGood point. I can only hope that they have some savings to rely upon, because unlike the spread-out furlough days from this summer (which already cut their income by 20% for about 3 months straight), this is 100% cut off *zero* income for them until the Congress stops acting like children & finally does their job... And even then, they won't receive any pay until 2 weeks AFTER they return from furlough & can receive their normal paycheck again. Lunacy... I truly feel sorry for those who have nothing to fall back on. It's a situation I would never want to find myself in.
