  • Weddings Getting Too Expensive, for the Guests

"As the cost of attending weddings increases, so does the volume of RSVPs marked “Declines with regret.” Some 43% of Americans say they’ve declined to attend a wedding for financial reasons, according to a new poll by the American of Consumer Credit Counseling."

We have turned down numerous invitations over the years because the wedding was out of town. I'm not buying plane tickets for the 3 of us to go to a wedding unless I'm ultra-close with the person getting married. There are probably only 2 or 3 people for whom I'd consider doing that (and they're all married already).

That said, if we are invited and can't attend, we still send a gift but $100 or $150 is reasonable. A thousand or more is not.

    * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
    * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
    * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.
