  • Trouble getting your credit report mistakes fixed?

It might get easier now that Equifax has lost a suit to the tune of $18 million. If you're hainvg issues getting your credit reports corrected, detail everything and you might be in for a big payday at court:

A federal jury in Oregon has awarded $18.6 million to a woman who spent two years unsuccessfully trying to get Equifax Information Services to fix major mistakes on her credit report.

Julie Miller of Marion County was awarded $18.4 million in punitive damages and $180,000 in compensatory damages, though Friday's award against one of the nation's major credit bureaus is likely to be appealed, The Oregonian reported.

The jury was told she contacted Equifax eight times between 2009 and 2011 in an effort to correct inaccuracies, including erroneous accounts and collection attempts, as well as a wrong Social Security number and birthday. Her lawsuit alleged the Atlanta-based company failed to correct the mistakes...

This is excellent news. I have fought with them myself for years. Incorrect former addresses keep showing up and false collections that keep popping up. Frustration is tough to keep control when you have to resent disputes.

Trying to buy a house there is a couple With same name as my wife and I. Only difference is middle initial. What is even lousier to this? We both rented the same unit at an apartment complex at one point in time. So, guess how lousy this mix up can be?

    Hopefully they will co-operate now.

I've heard horror stories like this in the past about people unable to fix mistakes on their credit report. I think that 60 minutes did a piece on it a few years ago.

Hopefully this lawsuit will push the credit agencies into fixing mistakes more promptly.

How bizarre. Both of them share your names and rented the same apartment? What are the odds of that?
