These days, when I meet a well-meaning, sweet couple who tell me they aren't ready to have children yet because they need to save some money first and organise their finances, I snort. Ha. Obviously, like my former self, the poor suckers have heard horror stories about how much money raising a baby requires: diapers, car seats, pushchairs, clothes, formula, bottles, more clothes, endless amounts of outgrown clothes – the list has no end and let’s not get started on school and college fees.

Except, that's really one of those mistruths I feel obliged to address. In my short but meaningful experience as Baby A’s bewildered mama, I have found that, actually, babies are a great way to save money. Observe 10 ways babies can help in fattening up that bank account...

What a useless article! Every type of "savings" provided by having a baby that it lists can be summed up as "you won't have time to spend money when you have a baby." If you don't waste money on useless things, I don't see how it applies, and if you do, you don't need to have a baby to stop. I for one am still certain that I will have less money to work with once I have a baby rather than more.

Agreed, but this made me laugh.

People will no longer be coming by your home – you might as well sell that dining table.

Reminds me of seeing women selling practically brand new top of the line sewing machines on line that never got used. Reason they have a baby/toddler in the house and everyone knows you can't sew with little ones around.LOL I produced massive amounts of sewing while raising my boys plus while doing home daycare. At one point I made 11 garments in 9 days as I was getting ready to go to nursing school and only had 'mom' clothes. I consistently had 5 kids in the house the whole time and no one died!
