"Where can Best Buy compete? In service. So it's changing the way it pays employees to focus more on customer service."

I assume that means they will now work on commission. That's the last nail in the coffin as far as I'm concerned. I do my very best to avoid shopping in stores with commissioned salespeople because I know they have an inherent conflict of interest when assisting me. The one great thing about Best Buy was the fact that the staff was unbiased. Take that away and you take away their biggest advantage.

To me that would mean that the salespeople AREN'T commissioned and apparently they're not:

      Non-commissioned sales professionals

To me, with commissioned salespeople, you'll get "service" but not the kind you want (i.e. pushy and selling you things you don't need). They may try to push a warranty but I've never been hassled with in the past when I just tell them "no".

However I did read somewhere that an employee was saying that their hours could be based on how much they sell. That could have just been a disgruntled employee but it sounds reasonable and I guess wouldn't fall under the title of "commissioned" salespeople.

I just hope they don't go the way of Circuit City who, near their end, hired people who didn't know anything and didn't care at all. That's their only saving grace right about now.
