  • Are Expensive Batteries Worth the Extra Cost?

If you have kids, you probably know this already, but lots of stuff needs batteries. Remote control toys, Wii remotes, laser pointers (well, that is for me), flash lights, even Nerf guns. For me, I have found the best place to pick up batteries is at one of these “dollar” stores. Sure the batteries are cheaper, but are they any good? Who knows. Let’s find out...

From personal experience, the dollar store batteries are basically worthless. They wear out so fast that the cheaper cost can't be justified.

I wish he would have used a good store brand as his comparison rather than el cheapo made in China crappy dollar store batteries. That would have been more interesting.

Consumer Reports does testing on batteries regularly and their best buy is always one of the major store brands.

This is a textbook case of value vs saving money. The dollar store batteries, in my own experience, end up costing much more than the Duracell or Energizer batteries. People often assume that cheaper means spending less money, but in this case, it's the opposite.

I'd rather spend more money on something of value that has longevity instead of waste my time and money buying something cheap that needs to be replaced much more often.

If I am shopping for batteries I won't even bother to look at anything other than Energizer or Duracell. It seems to be that most anything else, especially the dollar store stuff, is junk.

I play guitar so I am frequently buying batteries for my pedals. Like others have said, you need to go with name brands. I have found a noticeable difference in battery life. The price of batteries kills me.....that and razor blades. I just don't understand why some things are so expensive
