Personally, I see this as a good thing. A lot of the whole housing mess was brought on by lenders giving loans to people who had no business having them. If you had a pulse, you could borrow 6 times your income with 2% down. It was insane. Let's get back to 20% down payments, 28% maximum debt to income ratio and providing solid evidence that you can actually afford the loan for which you are applying. If you can't meet those guidelines, keep on renting until you can. Home ownership is not for everyone. Some people may never be able to afford a home (or at least not in the market they want to live). So be it.Steve
