The book "The Millionaire Next Door" is all about this topic and is a great read.

Ditto. As soon as I saw this thread, Millionaire Next Door came to mind. And it's totally legitimate too -- "keeping up with the Jones'" never benefits you in the long run. You just blow through cash that you really don't need to spend, instead of saving/investing it, which will actually build your wealth.

The Milionaire's book is a great read because it also goes into the psychology of the wealthy and where they migrated from and who had attained the most. Loved the book.

My favorite book by Dr. Stanley is "The Millionaire Mind" tho I did enjoy "The Millionaire Next Door" too. If anyone reads this latest book that Ms. Singletary writes about in her column, would you please share with the rest of us if there is anything new in it, or if it is mostly recycled material from his previous books?

I just read something on yahoo.
It said "you can look rich or you can be rich. But you probably won't live long enough to do both" I would rather be rich.

The Millionaire Next Door author has a new book which, IMHO, wasn't as good. But desiring to be that millionaire, I got it from the library--and it was worth a browse through.

I like what Gertrude Stein said to Hemingway about being able to buy new clothes or buying art.
I'll bet her Picassos appreciated more than anybody's clothes.

Here it is! Thomas Stanley, the author of “The Millionaire Mind” has a new book out called “Stop Acting Rich and Start Living Like a Millionaire.”

It did have interesting things to say about balance sheet rich vs income statement rich and people's consumption habits.
