  • Couple throws "Out of Debt" party

    story

For Sherrie Muldoon, the credit card debt was $46,244.

But the relief she felt after paying it off was priceless.

The couple had been paying the debt for three years and seven months, Muldoon told CNN, adding that the last payment they made recently was for $1,500.

"When we mailed that last check ... I sat down in the car, I looked over to my husband and I just burst out into tears," she said.
almost brings a tear to a saver's eye....

Lesson learned, everybody: YES! IT IS POSSIBLE! ^_^

In a bit of irony, the couple charged the party costs to their credit card, to the tune of $1200... which they are now paying off.

    Just kidding.

Despite the merriment, she had one regret: She had paid full price for the black balloons that adorned the party room.

      Cute.

For a long time I have dreamed that when my mortgage is paid off I am going to have a huge party. I'll use the equivalent of one to two months worth of what would be a mortgage payment and I'm going to throw a big bash: live music, great food, the works.

I had thought about having a party when I paid off my student loans but I never did it. For quite a while, I was paying $1,200/month, so just one month's payment would have funded a nice time.

Remember rent parties? For some reason that is what I thought when I read the title - get a band up, maybe a keg and some snacks then see if your friends will kick in.

I'm definitely having a party when the mortgage is gone. There are a lot of us in my area who do the Dave Ramsey plan almost religiously, so it's a sort of race to see who can get done the fastest. I feel bad when my poker buddy tells me how he's doing - but then again, he's 57, never been married, and no kids. So I imagine it would be difficult to not be doing well financially, but I think I'd rather have a family.

                    My Party

I would have thrown a party when I was out of debt but I didn't have any money left!
