I've never liked getting bottled water, it's ridiculously expensive. Even in areas where the tap tastes bad (but is still safe), you can use a brita or pur water filter setup (pitcher or on the tap) and it tastes just fine, if not actually better than bottled water (IMO). My pitcher cost me $25, and filters cost about $4 every 2 months. It paid for itself within 1 month, plus tap water is buffered with fluoride (good for your teeth). No other way to go in my eyes....
Last year after reading about the plastic leeching into the water scare and the fact I hated paying the hefty price for bottled water as well as the waste, I bought a small thermal cup that seals well. I've been putting water from my Brita pitcher in it when I fix my lunch and it's been wonderful. Many of my friends have made fun of me saying I was silly -- that's it's easier to buy a bottle of water. It might be, but for the seconds it takes me to fill up the cup and put it in my lunch box, I don't mind.
Easier to buy bottled? you have to store the giant case, remember to buy it if you are short, carry the bottle to a recycle center when done (you are at least recycling right?) and worst of all listen to the annoying crackle as any child makes when they get their hands on the bottle.
Sorry thermal is easier to me (and stays cold longer)
No storage, the water company does that for me and pipes it in awfully cheap, no buying more or worry of being out (though I can see where some remote folk might need to worry on that) no carrying it to a recycle spot, instead I can fill it up from any water source and continue to drink. (though I do have to wash it once a day) and when a kid gets their hands on it, they 'pop' the lid up, quiet and entertaining...very useful on loooong car trips.
This actually works with most types of drinks and switching to tap water. I have been saving over $1000 a year for the last couple of years by making the switch from soda to tap water.
I keep a plastic bottle. Purchased for about dollar 2 from wal-mart. Always refill from water fountain or tap. I drink two bottles a day. Yearly saving almost 1400 dollar.
