  • Do you believe in ILLUMINATI?

My coworker subscribe to the conspiracy theory that the whole market is controlled one group of people, the "Illuminati". Even George Bush and Dick Cheney including the maestro himself Greenspan are members.

It sounds "whacky" to me to think that the market can be controlled by the very a few. I wonder if anyone here really believe this stuff...?

If it were true, surely someone would have spilled the beans by now.

Well, conspiracy theories abound.... I think what I find much more fascinating is why some people subscribe to certain conspiracies. Why that particular one? Why are they are so convinced? What is it exactly that makes them tick in that way?

You got me BA - This guy has an engineering degree, Series 7 license, and very smart guy. But I just don't really understand why people like him subscribed to this kind irrational way of thinking. He suggested to me DOW volatility are caused by the very few.

The only way you can moved up or down the market when the whole world are buyers or sellers at the same time. For example, Dow Jones Averages are unique in that they are price weighted rather than market capitalization weighted. Their component are therefore affected only by changes in the stocks' prices. What is that mean? Well it means the CEOs of all 30 Dow companies and its shareholders must really believe this stuff, including all institutional traders and hedge fund companies alike--all conspired to bring up or down the market. But we all know it was the "housing bubbles" that caused the market to go down.

Well...maybe its me that is not thinking straight..umm
