  • These folks are REALLY dedicated to saving gas money

Much more dedicated than me. I would have a heart attack.

One of our top managers actually commuted via recline tricycle. I thought it was brilliant! In fact, I'd love to be able to do that someday myself.

Only catch is that recline trikes are on the pricey side. Quality bicycles are more affordable.

Still, would love to get to a point in my life where this can become an option. For now, I'll stick to my gas-guzzler of a Corolla.

And yes, the marathoner is definitely dedicated. I don't think I'd want to do that every day. Maybe if I was 5 miles away from work or something, but 23 miles is way too much for me thanks.

hahaha this reminds me terribly of my younger brother... but they accurately hit on it when they mentioned it in the article: "Indeed, some suspect the ultras are exploiting high energy prices as just another excuse to fuel their running addiction." For those that love to run, you could easily say it does become an addiction, and they'll find any reason to go for a run of any distance.

so i don't think i'll be showing this article to my brother, i think he might get some ideas.......

Yes, the guy in this article is just finding a way to fit his needed training into his schedule. He adds unnecessary miles to his run. He rides back home in a carpool.

For a short while when in my twenties I rode my bike to work. It was only four miles, but I started in the cool of the morning and rode slowly so as not to work up much sweat. I did not have access to a shower at work so had to arrive extra early to both cool down and get kind of a sponge bath. I had to carry my toiletries & change of clothes, including nicer shoes. Appearance was important at this job, so it was difficult to pull off. But it was of necessity, not choice....One of the challenges was finding a place nearby to safely lock the bike. For some reason, I cannot remember the ride back home, but only the pleasant morning ride. My husband, riding his bike to work (four times the distance as my ride) got hit by a car one morning. Runners have that hazard, too, of course.

I am way too lazy to run that far to work, much less ADD miles!

Though I did at one time walk to work, and younger home from school I would start with a cold wet undershirt...kept me cool most of the way. though it was only a 1 or 2 mile trip.

actually if my kids were able to walk themselves I wouldn't mind the two miles to a store...but I don't want to carry an infant or make the 2 year old do it.

Those runners are impressive but also a little insane. I'll keep driving my minivan even if gas is $4 a gallon!
