I am presently on an eating plan that just about duplicates that list. Right now, i can't have coffee, milk products, potatoes, squash,, tofu, or whole grain pasta. Although the food may be under $1., that is for 1 person not everyone in your house. Buying some of these items per person in your house could up your grocery bill quite a bit if not on sale. I'm also on different types of nuts and unless you buy them on sale - they're costly. Portion conrol has a lot to do with costs also.

I have yet to buy Kale for $1.00 and under. It normally is about $2.99 for a bunch.

Convenience foods are more expensive and also have alot of artificial ingredients, flavors, and preservatives. Eating fresh is healthier or at the least frozen berries.

While some on that list are good, that article is a little dated in its pricing and some items simply aren't as cheap as they are trying to pass them off as being (maybe a regional price difference?) I would say that I would only go with half those and add another 10 that I think are more appropriate.

Even if the prices are a bit outdated, it still has good info on nutritious easting...I also think the author was pricing per item because it was written, a single banana may cost about 19 cents. Sometimes I sit and figure what I spent for dinner and since we don't eat a whole box of rice or a whole loaf of bread, I try to figure out what it would cost per serving.

rob62521: I think that is the best - to price per serving. I guess compared to processed foods; the prices aren't too bad.

Aleta -- compared to processed foods, these are good prices not to mention a whole lot healthier. But I guess some folks don't think like we do!
