    A new survey from Microsoft on office productivity has found that almost two of every five days workers spend on the job is wasted. The wasted time comes from meetings that are unproductive or pointless, poor communication between colleagues and objectives that aren't clearly defined.

    According to the survey results, workers felt that out on average work week of 45 hours, 17 of these were unproductive with the main area causing this lack of productivity being meetings. Workers spend an average of 5.6 hours a week in meetings with nearly 70% of these meeting being a waste of time.

    In addition to useless meetings, inadequate communication and undefined objectives, unclear priorities and procrastination were also listed as major areas that wasted time at work. A majority of 55% of the workers said that computer software was directly related to their productivity.

    The survey also found that workers received an average of 42 emails a day, many of these being not necessary to their work. It also found that women were slightly more productive than men with a productivity rating of 72% while the men received a score of 71%

    The survey was answered by approximately 38,000 participants in 200 different countries. The respondents answered 18 questions about their work-related practices.
