My coworker brews his own beer and was complaining about the cost of hops...this is the first I've heard about the price of flour though. I haven't seen any dramatic price increases in pizza yet.

I saw a news report on this. It is killing the local bakeries and donut shops. The lady said a few months ago the flour was $4 for the giant bags and is now $15!! I don't think this is a slow and steady climb either, I believe it will hit soon like a ton of bricks. It may become cheaper to buy preprocessed foods from companies that still get it cheaper to buy in bulk, then it will be to cook or bake your own food from a consumers price. I did'nt think about the beer prices though! I will have to bring that up to DH and watch him cry!

Hotdog buns have gone up 25% in the last 90 days locally!

I asked for a price check this week because I didn't believe the scanner could be correct.

We don't eat a lot of bread.

Not to change the subject, but I was at walmart today and I bought a few vegetables, fruits, and what not. I noticed though when I was picking up the bananas, that the price was 64 cents a pound. I could of sworn that about one year ago you could get bananas for about 34 cents a pound.

It takes a lot of fuel to get bananas from Ecuador to your local supermarket.

Now that Ecuador has had severe flooding, we can expect bananas to go up even higher. We're waiting at our store to see how high we'll have to raise the price.
Plus the severe droughts last summer effected the wheat and hay crops, which explains the high price of any foods made with flour. It also explains why the cost of milk and eggs skyrocketed. Farmers have to pay more for hay and grain and feed for chickens. They have to make up the cost somewhere.
