Can A Penny Dropped From A Tall Building Kill You?
mythbusters (on discovery channel) did this myth and busted it. wanna know how? they fired pennies thru a callibrated air cannon at a head made out of ballistics gel! too neat!
I love mythbusters and will watch repeated episodes during the same week. Can they explore financial myths besides credit card magnetic stripes losing their codes by swiping a magnet across it or placing it in an eel skin wallet?
Like the financial myth that if I collect the new money being created by the treasury department, will it ever increase in value to outpace even modest returns on an investment of say 5% in CDs over the next 2000 years.?
using the formula to calculate future value (FV) of an investment at a constant rate of return (i) over n years
1 dime invested at 5% for 200 years would yield the following return.
FV = PV(1+i)^n
FV = .10 * ((1 + .05)^200) = $1,729.26
rare coins yes, current coins will "never" appreciate due to everyone collecting them eliminates the rareness factor.
An 1822 dime has a max value of $1250 according to coinsite.com
the best part is about walking on water, and at the end they create a big vat of "non-newtonian fluid" which adam apparently hadn't experienced before. quite entertaining...
a roll of pennies would most likey have the mass to hurt you seriously at terminal velocity.
What about a brick tossed by a rioter, say in downtown Los Angeles? He survived and I would fear the brick over the roll of pennies without calculating the kinetic energy of either.
I do know for a fact I wouldn't want to be hit with a grain of sand traveling at 50,000 miles per hour!
