  • Pay $30,200 to Get a Summer Job

    By Valerie S. Johnson

Competition for an unpaid summer internship is fierce among college students, particularly in the “glamour” fields of advertising, publishing, entertainment, and politics. But what if Daddy could buy you one on eBay?

Apparently that’s how one unnamed man snared an internship in the marketing department of GQ magazine. His father was the winning bidder out of a field of 85 hopefuls. Bidding started at $500 and ten days later, Dad won with a bid of $30,200. His son gets not only the internship at the prestigious magazine but also a personal makeover, a $1,000 wardrobe and concert tickets. He will also be the subject of a GQ article.

Imagine paying big money in order to work for free. But it’s for good causes; GQ is donating the proceeds to five charities. Click here for more details about this and other internships acquired by auction.
