    Re: PieceofCake's 2006 Challenge

    I fixed the total.

The patch test is a small clinical trial. The nurse puts various small patches with creams or lotions or makeup on them onto my back and covers it with tape. There's a small control patch also. I go in around 10-15 times for 5 minutes over the course or about 8 weeks or so. They check it and change the patches. Depending on the product tested, I get $100-$150. If it's a 4 hour or and 8 hour, that's only $10. The 4 hour one isn't worth it for me since I'd have to leave work at lunchtime to do it. Since I'm paid $20 per hour and it costs gas money to get there, I'd lose. The place is in my town and about 60 seconds out of my way, so I drive by on my way to work. When I wasn't working, I'd just walk there to save the gas money.

DH won $10 in the lottery, gave me 1/2. I added another $5 to the lottery line. I almost finished the first front side on the baby sweater I'm making to sell. I brought in the afghan to work on, however (gift) just to let people see I'm crocheting. Once it's too big to carry around, I'll start bringing in the baby items. I'm thinking of sitting in the cafeteria for a half hour every day for expose more people to what I'm doing. Still need to get brave enough to plunge into the ebay world.

        Total of $20 spent: $10.16

Total towards goal: 12 cents found
        13.50 lottery
        100.00 patch test
        Total: $113.62

Does your company have a newsletter or an intranet web site where you could offer to sell your stuff? My company has a newsletter that comes out every Friday, and there is a section for stuff for sale. There's also a section on our website for the same thing. Also, if anyone you know is pregnant and they're throwing a baby shower for her at work, you may want to make one. It's a great way to get the word out...

            Re: PieceofCake's 2006 Challenge

Well, the sad news is that my boss has asked me NOT to do my crocheting at lunchtime. Long story short is that it doesn't look good, as if I'm "playing", I guess, rather than working. Since I'm only a temp, I would agree to almost anything. I can always go outside in the car for a half hour if I want, but I loose the audience. Oh well.

They don't have anything other than some bulletin boards where people post things, and, again, since I'm a temp, I wouldn't even try.

I donated some handmade scarfs to the Christmas drive (each group had a family) and that was well received, but that's about it.

Have to think of something else.

That makes no sense whatsoever. Your lunch time is your free time. You are quietly crocheting, not standing on a table singing karaoke. It reminds me of a friend whose boss told him he could not have a personal book lying on his desk unless it was business-related. Bizarre! Sorry to hear it!

                Re: PieceofCake's 2006 Challenge

It makes "some" sense, if you understand my circumstances. I started to temp here in June as a replacement for someone who was supposed to be out for 6 weeks. That went on for a very long time. And, even when she came back, they kept me on proving to "the uppers" that they needed my help. If anyone sees me crocheting, they might think I have nothing to do. It's all in the perception. They want me to stay until the person I'm replacing (who just went out again for two weeks) come back and is settled in. Now is not the time for someone to decide the group doesn't need me. If this was my "real" job, I would put up a stink, but you can't do much when you are at everyone's mercy.

I sat outside in the car today (where no one could see me) and crocheted for a while at lunchtime. I'll produce a product, but can't get much marketing done there LOL

I guess that makes some sense...but still, it's your lunch break, whether you're a temp or not.

                    Re: PieceofCake's 2006 Challenge

DH just won another $3 in the lottery, so I add $1.50 to my total. I also cashed in on a survey and am expecting a $5 check, so I'll add that when it arrives.

I worked on my crocheting this morning and, if I have time, I'll get back to my listmaking--books. I'm beginng to think that even 50 cents a book would be worth it at ebookdrop, we'll see once I have a decent list to just go in there and list one after the other.

Found a penny on the ground while hiking yesterday afternoon. Found two nickels while walking today.

Finished 3 Christmas ornaments (sell in November???) worked on the baby sweater last night and the afghan this morning.

You might want to take a look at www.etsy.com. It's a site specifically established for selling handmade items. You set your prices, so it isn't an auction site like eBay. You need some good photos of your work, but uploading them at the site is a piece of cake, ha ha ha.

Just a thought for you - we are on similar paths, trying to sell handmade things.

Some survey company sent me a penny (for my thoughts), so I'm throwing out the survey and keeping the penny to add to my found money.

Unfortunately, I'm running out of yarn before completing what I'm working on, so I'm going to spend the rest of my $20 on yarn. By mixing the colors, I'll end up with 4, rather than 2 baby outfits, so that may work out. I sure hope so. A lot of work, little return. I just keep running out of time to get everything done.

I got a rebate in the mail that I totally forgot about. The ground meat I was buying (on sale) had a sticker on it that said: "$2.00 off this package if you buy Hamburger Helper". The Hamburger Helper Cheesy Jambalaya Skillet Mix was on sale for $1.99 and it had a rebate on it, so it was "free" to begin with since I was buying the meat no matter what. I just got a rebate check for $2.20, so I'm adding that on.
