  • Keeping It Frugal in Texas's Challenge

Ok, I'm coming into this game four months late, but I'll see what I can do in the next two months.

I'm not sure how much I have left that is saleable on Ebay. Back in April/May I made close to $800 selling my teacher books/supplies, then sold the remainder to half-price bookstore. Used most of that money for my more than likely last real vacation to Fredricksburg.

So, anyway, I transfered $20 into my paypal account. If nothing else, it will at least gain some interest (slightly more than ING, and a WHOLE lot more than sitting in my credit union at .025%!!)

I have some books that I could sell - Little House books, a one-year Bible, etc. Won't bring in much, but it would be a start. I'll also ask around to find out if anyone has anything they might like to sell on ebay. I don't have a huge feedback, but enough to make people comfortable buying from me. I also have a bunch of CD's that I could sell that I have loaded on my MP3 player, so don't really need the actual CD's anymore.

    So, Day 1 of 62:
    Begining Balance: $20.00
    Actual Balance: $20.00

    We'll see what happens!

Re: Keeping It Frugal in Texas's Challenge

Okay, so I've listed my first three items on Ebay. $35 x 3 = $1.05

I listed a prepaid phone card, an ethernet cable, and a one-year Bible.

    So,
    Begining balance: $20.00

Spent: $1.05 - Ebay listing fees

    Current Balance: $18.95

My ebay name by the way is: laneerg. I'm not sure if I can post a link to my items for sale page here or not.

Finally, some progress on my ebay listings. The Bible has a bid on it, so it will sell ($1.99). The phone card has a couple of watchers, so maybe it will sell. I wasn't really too sure of what category to put the Ethernet cable in, so I'm not sure that it's coming up in people's searches or not. In any case, I lowered the price on it to see if that would help.

I will update again when the auctions end.

More progress! The Bible sold for $3.92, and the phone card sold for $1.50. The ethernet cable didn't sell. As soon as I know final value fees and paypal fees, I'll update my amount.

Re: Keeping It Frugal in Texas's Challenge

I used money from my Paypal account to buy 30 cpns. 20 cpns for Macaroni and Cheese, and 10 coupons for Boxed Frozen Vegetables. The Macaroni cpns are $.50/1 - doubled will give me a savings of up to $1. The Boxed Veggie cpns are $.60/3 - if Albertsons has their double or triple sale again (before they expire) my savings will be anywhere from $.60/3 - $2.40/3 (quadruple). I will add however much each coupon actually saved me to my total for the challenge.

              Previous Balance: 28.37

              Coupon Order: $2.87 (30 cpns + shipping)

              New Balance: 25.50

Re: Keeping It Frugal in Texas's Challenge

Ok, I decided that I am going to add my grocery coupons that I get in the Sunday paper each week to my totals, along with anything I do on Ebay.

So, today I bought a double paper for $1.99 Whenever I go grocery shopping (whether I pay or my dad pays) I'm going to count the total coupon value (after doubling or tripling if that applies.) So, let's say I buy some Macaroni. I have a $.50 coupon for it. It costs $.89. With the doubled coupon, that makes it free. Since my store doesn't give me overages, I will have saved $.89.

                Previous Balance: $25.50

                Dbl Newspaper: $1.99

                New Balance: $23.49
