  • Frustrated with Treasury Direct

Looks like the govt just does NOT want us to buy its bonds. I mis-entered my a/c number and it is now going to take 13 WEEKS to fix it (per the email from Treasury Direct). My husband has lost his a/c number, cannot verify his info (address is likely the problem) and now he's locked out and cannot buy bonds either. Gee, thanks, Uncle Sam. This is BEYOND frustrating.

Oh and more thought - can you buy the bonds through a commercial brokerage? Bigger companies like Schwab and Fidelity might able to do it.

You can buy anything but I bonds from your broker.

I'm currently locked out of my Treasury Direct account for entering a slightly different version of a security question answer..their website and system are the WORST.

I've been unable to log into my account for some reason. I don't even remember what the issue was. I tried calling a couple of times but the hold time was nuts so I gave up. Fortunately, I don't own anything in my account. Unfortunately, it's meant I've been unable to purchase any of the great I bonds we keep talking about. Maybe now that I'm working less, I'll devote some time to getting through to customer service - though honestly I doubt I'll bother.
