While equity funds have the potential of delivering the highest returns but I would suggest that you consider investing in balanced funds since I get the impression that this is your first real investment in variable return products. Mutual funds offer investors the benefit of professional fund management, pass-through tax benefits, diversification, etc.

Don't expect magic. Be patient. Stay invested. Let your money work for you.

Thanks all for the inputs .

I ended up splitting and putting the $ into different places. ~65% into Vanguard index funds + ~15% into cryptocurrencies+ ~15% lending club + ~5% just spent on 2-week road trip vacation with the family.

Doing great with Vanguard and I think I'm doing OK with lending club,.. so far. Cryptocurrencies investment has been a fun experience and learning curve. Had big gain few weeks ago on crypto. But I'm getting into negative territories this week. But that's the fun of crypto world. Overall, it's all good.

Didn't pay down the mortgage because we had plan and already starting paying extra mortgage.

Thank you for updating your followers on actions taken. I suggest adding your personal Investment Policy Statement [IPS], merely a brief statement of goals for this specific block of money...value you anticipate each segment, Vanguard, CC and Lending Club July 31. 2018, and 5 years 2022. Include action to be taken on a major increase or decrease in value [particularly CC and Lending Club]
