  • How about an 8% dividend yield?

I am eyeing this stock and have for a while: Alliance Resource Partners (ARLP).

If it dips to $20 I'm a buyer. Right now it is still sporting a 8% dividend yield and they've paid consistent dividends for a LONG time.

With Trump getting elected, Old King Coal is going to come roaring back.

Could be a good buy. A lot of what happened to coal wasn't due to regulation as much as it was due to natural gas replacing it as a fuel source.

I'm keeping my eye on a couple of funds that have been paying a steady monthly dividend since the late 90's.

Meh...I dont see coal coming back like people are led to believe. Like bjl said...natural gas killed coal. Its cheaper and safer to mine.

Im from a once booming coal region...the amount of money it would take to bring that industry back up and running would cost more than the value of the coal in the ground.

Also grew up less than 30 miles from centralia. For those that dont know coal was huge there...until it caught on fire underground in the 60's and has been burning ever since. The place is a ghost town. If you drive through there when its cold you can see the steam coming up from the earth. Kind of interesting.

We've driven through Centralia. Such an eerie feeling. It is a ghost town for sure.

If you're going to invest in coal, I'd watch it carefully and be ready to get out if things don't go the way the administration would like.

          To add to this discussion:

Not a fan of the coal industry--- It's dying industry IMO.

Coal pollutes the water system, promotes negative health and environment disaster acid rain.

Sounds like we are from the same place 20-30 miles away. I drove through the town in the late 70s before they razed the place. You could drive on one section of road where the smoke was coming up through cracks on BOTH sides of the road. Don't think I'll ever forget that.

I wouldnt worry, you probably dodged a bullet IMO. Coal is only useful in the steal industry anymore and China has flooded the market with cheap steal. It was pretty disingenuous to raise hopes of revival citing regulation as the cause of the industry downturn.
