  • Anyone selling gold?

There are so many floods here, the gold is just likely waiting for us at the American River.
5 minutes from the town where we own land and want to build but don't have the cash flow yet.

I wish we knew how to pan for gold...the circumstances are perfect right now for it.
Then we could keep it and use it to pay for our once a week meals when we eat out at the local restaurant/store/post office building.
We go up once a week for church then eat out for lunch while we are there.
They accept gold as a cash payment

Have you considered letting tourists on your property to pan and charging them a modest fee? You might not need to learn how to pan at all!

Ingenious James. Except the American River is about 5-8 minutes away so we own no land within that proximity

We have a gold mine on the property so could do that with a few of the locals on the honor system.
We would need to pay someone to dig it out first since it is caved in.
We have no interest in mining for gold whatsoever due to his breathing issues. This just one of our future projects

I have no experience with it but have watched many of the shows on it. Sure doesn't seem complicated to pan for gold.

Face the facts old people and old bugs. Bitcoin is eating your lunch. Gold and silver shops be hurting from it. Turn energy into money.

Then you must be seeing Todd Hoffman loosing his pants in Oregon and South America a few years prior. I see gold mining as huge risk that needs a big operation to get any real gold and the bigger the operation the larger the risk. A gold pan and a pick will not yield very much

I live in Oregon. There are lots of gold panning spots here in the southern and eastern parts of the state. While I agree that it doesn't make sense to quit your day job and go panning for gold full time, it can be a fun part of a weekend camping getaway...go out in nature with your family during the summer, pitch a tent, grill some hotdogs, pan for gold for a couple of hours and then sit in the shade and relax with a beer.

Yeah, I'm for that but not in the business sense where you need to recover gold to pay expense..

I panned in Alaska for a couple hours and got a few specks and actually looked into a portable sluice box, there's lots of places close to me to try, not sure if I can just go anywhere and pan too, might find myself in trouble

You misinterpreted my post. I was in no way offering any opinion as to whether gold mining was a good idea. I also wasn't suggesting it was easy to make money at.

I was simply stating that the process to pan for gold looks pretty simple to me.

Whether you find enough to make it worthwhile is entirely different thing

It isn't that complicated but there are places where Gold often floats more readily than others in the American River. It's actually pretty intricate when you hear them talk.
Like anything, you have alot to learn to get good at it.... to make it pay off. If it ever really does.

Most everyone I know just makes enough to put food on their table although we know one guy who hit a 40K pocket last year in one of the Gold mines.
But mind you, he worked 7-8 hrs a day all year long He made more but had to share it with the mine owner. Then she paid the last 10K off off on her house.

Here's a lady we used to know. She was homeless and lived at the River.
It's a little discouraging because for at least a few years she panned for Gold but never seemed to do that well.
She had a little gas $$ and made enough to put food in her belly but even that dried up.
So if she cannot figure out how to do it right, so it pays at least minimum wage,...well I am not sure I could.

She and her husband owned a cabinet shop business for years. Economy dipped, business dried up, divorce, then she eventually became homeless.
She got a job with the Parks & Rec for half of the year then pulled herself out of hte rut was able to start a housecleaning business. Ever since I've not seen her.
She has a 4 yr degree. Far from someone you'd think of as homeless. I wasn't aware she became a Christian.

Question assumes that we at some point bought gold...

Oh man, what a tough story. She wasn't mentally ill or a drug addict, just down on her luck.

I hear her housekeeping business is doing quite well

When I met her, no doubt she had class and had been in a professional enviornment. I could tell she had a College Education by the way she acted
Yes, she just had bad luck. She is also a bit shy and very independent
What is sad is she's never came back to visit the townsfolk who helped her out so much. She is surely embarrassed about being homeless.
But so many people miss her. I doubt she has any clue of how much she was loved
