    In the past we have always reinvested the dividends because it was a cheap way to acquire more stock.
    This year I switched to taking dividends on one stock. The reason is rebalancing the portfolio.

      I never recommend specific stocks. A good DRIP stock is one that is expected to be around for a long time and that has a good record of paying a dividend. You would want to avoid REITs in a taxable account since the dividends would be taxed at your ordinary income tax rate and not at the special dividend rates of either 15% or 20%.
