Well, EVs being more expensive than gas cars is becoming the thing of the past now with the new introduction of the tax credit. A new Model 3 SR+ is like 36k after tax credit and in some states under 30k with additional tax credits. I have seen Bolts for sale for under 20k after tax credits.

I was looking into an EV but it would also cost to upgrade our panel. Also I'm not sure tesla will win self driving so for now we're just waiting to see who wins.

Probably part of the reason why solar is becoming increasingly popular. I see panels on another house around here every few days. My daughter works for a solar company and one factor that goes into their system designs is whether or not the homeowner will be charging an EV. More and more of their clients are.Originally posted by rennigade View PostI did see articles recently how it's more expensive to charge an electric vehicle than using gasoline. It was based on 100 miles of driving. Not sure if that figure changes the more you drive. Electricity has gone up significantly here.

Rennigade,
So this topic piqued my interest. I did some basic searching on the internet here and came across what looked like a good comprehensive summary of the costs of carrying an EV. The document was from Consumer Reports.
It basically said:
1. EVs have higher up front purchase prices
2. Adjusting for purchase incentives, EV depreciate at the same rate as gasoline powered vehicles
3. EV owners save about 50% in repair costs over the lifetime of vehicle ownership
4. EV owners saved about 60% on fuel costs relative to gas powered vehicles
5. In many cases EV matched or exceeded the performance of gas powered vehicles
6. Lifetime costs of EVs were consistently lower than gas powered vehicles, regardless of whether the vehicle was used.
So, the long and short of it is they're more expensive, but cost less over the long run.
Link to the consumer reports document here.

Thanks for checking in, Singuy . Good to hear from you. That's great that you are both semi-retired. Enjoy it. I now work 8 hrs/wk myself since August and I'm loving it. Best thing ever.

Hey guys. I noticed some people checking up on me making sure I didn't hand myself..lol.
Anyways, no, have not sold a thing. Currently my portfolio is around 2.3M (taxable)from the same 640k investment. Retirement is around 750k. I didnt do any buying on the way up for amd or Tesla so my cost basis are still low. I am down about 40k on fvrr I think. I didnt buy much of fvrr on the way up either.
Wife and I are still working during the run up so nothing has changed. Didnt buy lambo, mansions, and blow. Still saving roughly quarter of a mil per year as its our goal.
As for Tesla, pain is real but I am not worried at all because the company fundamentals just strengthend the last 2 years. Way better than the cluster F it was when I made my big buy in 2019. Holding for awhile as i have no use for all this money. Its mainly for our kids as our revenue coming in can fully satisfy our lifestyle. Sorry I didn't post much as most of my time was consumed by moderating FB Tesla investment group and very active on the Tesla investor forum.
Wife semi retired, working 1.5 days a week. Her net income is still the same at around 250k. I am semi retired too working 24-32hrs.Last edited by Singuy; 01-07-2023, 10:00 AM.

I don't think we'll be hearing from him any time soon so it's hard to say.Originally posted by Like2Plan View Post
I was just reviewing some of the previous posts he made and it looks like he said he got in between 30 and 65, so maybe his is down from his starting point. (Unless he did some profit taking along the way...)
